Just a 45-minute drive from downtown Hiroshima, Yuki Town is renowned for its hot springs, as its name suggests. Surrounded by the majestic nature of the Seto Inland Sea and the Western Chugoku Mountains, it offers a peaceful and comfortable atmosphere that feels like an escape from everyday life. With its long history as a hot spring resort and a variety of activities to enjoy, Yuki Town leaves a deep impression on those who visit.
A Deep Connection Between History and Nature
Yuki Town was formed in 1956 through a merger and has a long history as a hot spring destination. Notably, the two hot springs, "Yuki Onsen" and "Yunoyama Onsen," are deeply ingrained in the town's identity, with their origins tracing back to a 1,500-year-old legend involving a white heron. According to the story, a wounded heron was healed in the area, leading the villagers to discover the hot springs. This connection made the area flourish as Hiroshima's "hidden retreat." Furthermore, during the Edo period, it became known as a therapeutic retreat for feudal lords, with its historical background still visible in the area.
Surrounded by the Seto Inland Sea and the Western Chugoku Mountains, Yuki Town offers beautiful landscapes throughout the four seasons. In the summer, visitors can enjoy river activities and mountain walks, while in the winter, the town transforms into a picturesque hot spring destination wrapped in snow, captivating tourists all year round. The sight of fireflies in the Yuki Onsen area and the beauty of the water-clarified Ayu fish caught in the Mizunouchi River are unique attractions of the town.

Shower Climbing: An Adventurous Journey to Experience Nature
Shower climbing is an activity in Yuki Town that allows participants to fully experience nature, offering a refreshing experience in the clear streams. Walking through the river, you can peek behind waterfalls, climb against the flow, and enjoy a sensation of merging with nature. With the thrill of rock climbing, the splash of waterfalls, and the feeling of the transparent river flowing, an adventure awaits that cannot be experienced in daily life.
Since 2025, the "Shower Climbing x Forest Regeneration Project" has been introduced, where part of the participation fee is used for conservation activities of the forest and river, allowing participants to contribute to the environment while enjoying the activity. This sustainable tourism experience is a new way of experiencing both the beauty of nature and environmental protection.
In winter, the water temperature of the river is too low for participation, so reservations are not being accepted at this time. As summer approaches, the most comfortable season for experiencing the crystal-clear streams of Yuki Town arrives. This activity is scheduled to resume in the summer season, allowing for an adventurous experience in the cool river.
If you visit in the summer, be sure to try the shower climbing experience!
