Kyu-Ishii-Kenreitei (Former Ishii Private Residence) is the oldest Western-style building made of bricks in Morioka.

This building was built from 1885 to 1886  as a private house of Mr. Shoichiro Ishii, a member of Kizokuin (House of Peers.)

It was referred as one of the very first western-style houses built in Japan and it has been designated as  Morioka Historical Building in 1977.

The building is located in Shimizucho, Morioka. It is outstandingly artistic because of the design and the walls mysteriously covered with ivy. The leaves changing colors inform us of the changing season every now and then.
