Wouldn`t you love to stay at a hotel located on high ground overlooking the sea and try your hand at strawberry picking!? Sounds fun, right?
In December 2017 a new strawberry greenhouse was opened at Royal Hotel in Miyazu. It is the largest strawberry greenhouse built attached to a hotel in Kyoto Prefecture.
You can sightsee, stay at a luxurious hotel, and enjoy strawberry picking all at the same place!

Six greenhouses used for strawberry cultivation lie on the hotel grounds from which Amanohashidate, one of the three scenic spots of Japan, can also be seen stretching majestically across Miyazu Bay. It is definitely a sight worth seeing!
The strawberries are grown at a height of a few dozen centimeters above the ground making it easy for both adults and children to pick. There are 8,000 strawberry bushes. They are all “Akihime” strawberries, a juicy sweet type of strawberry with low acidity. Both the soil the strawberries are grown in and the bees used to pollinate the strawberries are handpicked by the hotel making the strawberries 100% hotel made.
The restaurant located within the hotel uses the strawberries grown at the greenhouse in combination with local food products to make a special gourmet dessert menu. There is also a strawberry buffet popular among men as well as women.
At the hotel lounge located on the first floor you can eat strawberry desserts, strawberry cocktails, and strawberry smoothies while enjoying a gorgeous view of Amanohashidate.

“It`s one more reason for people to come to Miyazu” ~says a local resident.
But the point is not just for people to come and stay in Miyazu. The idea behind the strawberry greenhouse was to create “a hotel that people want to stay at for a reason”. This goal was realized with the creation of “Royal Strawberry Park”, the only hotel in an affiliated group of 28 large hotels operated across the nation to open a strawberry picking facility. The opening of the strawberry greenhouse marks the discovery of yet another way to sightsee in northern Kyoto Prefecture.
