Myokenson-Shrine and the Hebiyori-giyoji (Inagi city,Tokyo)

This Myokenson-Shrine is in Inagi city about 30 minutes by train from Shinjuku and located 400 meters west of Inagi station on the Keio Sagamihara Line as access.
This shrine is at the mountaintop of Mt. Myokensan on the east side of Myokenji-Temple, and is famous for its historical and religious significant event named as
“Hebiyori-giyoji”, regularly held on August 7 every year, continuing from 1662.

“Hebiyori-giyoji” is the Tokyo Metropolitan Intangible Folk Cultural Property as a rare event in Japan, the local people are reaping the grasses(Hemerocallis fulva) and twisting it into a big snake shape of about 150 meters in length for the purpose of praying for misery
